The bakery's specialty is using rolled fondant, a sugar dough, used to drape over cakes as well as to make 3-D animals and other decorations. After reading all the wonderful reviews , we decided to try Cupcake crazy for their cupcakes for my daughter's birthday. The estimate for the job was really expensive but based on Karen's promise to deliver us a piece of art that would last in our memories forever we decided to go for it. Unfortunately, the results were not even close to what she had built our expectations to be.
To be direct these were our complaints:
- the decoration of the centerpiece cupcakes was unappealing (don't ask them to create any figurines for you)
- they centerpiece cupcakes were wobbly and became deformed because of their weight (we would expect experts to factor such things into their design)
- even though we gave them our list of flavors, they included a number of their own basic flavors which none of our guests (kids) liked.
Before writing this review we tried to contact Karen to resolve our issues and she didn't return our call, and when we finally got a hold of her she was not interested in our concerns. Instead she rambled on about how great she thought the cupcakes looked and made personal jabs at us, telling us to go to other bakeries, like Bake Me a Cake, because we mentioned that they did an awesome job with our last cake. We had called her with good intentions and expected she would listen to our concerns so that perhaps other customers would not go through what we did. Unfortunately, she did not give us a chance and hung up on us in mid conversation.
To be fair, we do like Cupcake Crazy's cupcakes that they offer at their shop. We wish they can learn from this experience and be more professional with their customers.
Karen was awesome. She and Wes Malone designed the cake together and she did an amazing job with the drawing. Guests at the wedding indicated they didn't like wedding cake, but when the cake was placed in front of them, they decided to try it. They went back for thirds and even brought some home. Karen made the cake for my wedding. It was so beautiful I didnt want to cut into it! We came to her with an idea of what we wanted, and she created a materpiece! She was able to capture my entire vision for the wedding in my cake. Once we cut into it, it was the most delicious cake I'd ever tasted!
Karen, thank you so much for making the centerpiece of my wedding so masterful!
If you haven't had Karen's cupcakes, you haven't had a cupcake. OMG, each is a little taste of heaven. And although I haven't had her cakes recently, but from her previous wedding cake shop, they werre equally as wonderful and creative. You keep those cupcakes going girl!
