Cupcake Delights, Inc.

Category: Bakery (17 listings) Desserts (23 listings)

We pride ourselves by creating the freshest, highest quality and most tempting cupcakes available. We bake our moist delicious cupcakes daily right here on the premises with only quality ingredients. Our signature Butter Cream and Cream Cheese frostings are made from scratch using real butter, cream cheese and Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla. Just look into the display case and you'll need a napkin. We're located in beautiful downtown Mount Dora, just across from Donnelly Park. Come enjoy a day of shopping, lunch and a delicious treat at Cupcake Delights.

We want to thank all of our wonderful customers for voting us “Best Bakery” and taking the time to write a review. Please take your time to read ALL the reviews. Just come in and try a cupcake yourself, I don't think you'll be sorry you did.

Cupcake Delights uses a refrigerated bakery case for our cupcakes because we use pastry fillings and real PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese® in many of our frostings. Our buttercream frosting is made with REAL BUTTER and Half & Half; therefore, the frosting is soft, sweet, and sensitive to heat and humidity and better refrigerated for packaging. For optimal taste and texture we recommend you allow your cupcakes to set at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving.

Seriously! They charge over $2 per cupcake for the size I can make at home! I thought, "Well, for that size, at that price, they must taste AMAZING!!" Nope. Just regular old cupcakes. AND, the counter person wasn't very friendly!

Whatever.

Unfortunantly the place is tiny- so I guess that's why they have to limit their inventory- and seem to close early as they tend to run out of stuff/cupcakes on a regular basis. I agree with the other reviews where the refrigeration dries things out- and nothing better than a freshly made cupcake with a tall glass of milk- but the cupcake should be slightly warm or room temp to enjoy it- not ice cold!
The cupcakes are small- not like the ones you would get at like a Starbucks (their muffins tend to spill out and explode out of the cupcake paper wraps they are made in) the Cupcake Delights cupcakes barely come to the top of the paper and have just a swirl or dollop of frosting- and for the price- you can buy a whole box of duncan hines mix and the frosting and have them they way you want to. Which that also brings up a good point- I do not believe there is some secret cupcake recipe either- it tastes like standard off the shelf quality that you could purchase at the grocery store.
I am a local- and know that these things have been consistently brought up to the ownership there- but nothing has changed in the past year. However in todays tough economic climate- people are demanding more for their hard earned money- cute shop- but the quality lacks. I hope they read all people's comments and make some necessary changes to meet public expectations.

PS-Why do they close on Sundays? The street is packed with people who would like a cupcake- and have seen them walk away in disappointment and frustration- that town is made for weekend business- should not be a 9-5 M-F operation. Cater to the locals and the tourists and you will survive.

Why do they refrigerate the cupcakes??!! Even a marginally competent baker knows that refrigeration dries baked goods.

I agree with the previous reviewer - this is not a bakery, but a cupcake shop. And not a good cupcake shop at that.

On our weekend exploration of Mt.Dora we asked local where we could get dessert. We were told this cupcake place was voted best bakery in central Fla recently. We had to try it.
I have to say that if this is the best Central Fla has to offer then I am dissappointed to live here. I don't know how big the pool was that voted but I demand a recount. The cupcakes are limited and kept in a fridge. Where are the strudels and cakes and pasteries? I know its called Cupcake Delights so I guess I should not expect anything more but I guess I expected a higher variety and quality for being voted "the best". good but certainly not much better than birthday party quality.
I am only giving it 2 stars to offset the unbalanced reviews.
If they stuffed the ballots like another reviewer said then they had better step it up and live up to what they created by their own buzz.

I ignored the average reviews, dismissing them as sour grapes, and drove to Mt. Dora anyway. What a waste of time.

The average reviews are 100% accurate. This place isn't great, and it isn't horrible. The staff is not exactly friendly, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that they're rude. The cupcakes aren't dry as dust, but not as good as other places. To repeat: this place is ordinary/average. That's all - not the end of the world. If you live in the area, fine, but this place gives you no reason to go out of your way.

Wonderful little bakery in the heart of quaint Mt. Dora. Stop by and have some coffee and one of many cupcakes--my favorite is the chocolate chip cookie dough and my husband loves the carrot cake cupcake. When a recent event at work called for something sweet, I called on Cupcake Delights to deliver over 200 cupcakes. Everyone at work raved about the cupcakes, particularly the red velvet and the Boston cream varieties. Excellent service with a smile.

If the owner invested a little more time on her product, and learned a few social graces, she wouldn't have to keep rounding up everyone in Mt. Dora to write the phony stellar reviews found on this site.

Bottom Line ::

Cupcakes: Two thumbs up on the icing, but the cake is missing something.

Shop: Unremarkable.

Staff: It's called schmoozing! Figure it out!

Overall, not worth the trip.

Cupcake Delights--my favorite Mt. Dora stop! I work in Miami and get to the Mt. Dora area several times a month (If I'm lucky) and wouldn't miss this shop for anything. I actually time my trips into the city to coincide with the times Cupcakes is open! The friendly atmosphere and charming decor add to the ambiance of this quaint little shop BUT the cupcakes are the main draw! I love the lemon sunshine ones but the others are also delicious--I just lean towards citrus flavors. The icings are superb, too! Drop in, have a cupcake--or two--and make a new friend of the owners and their assistants who coudn't be more gracious..

I have to wonder if most of the 5 star reviews are written by friends of the owner. I was in Cupcake Delights a few weeks ago and was not overly impressed. I agree with most of the average reviews.

I did not think the owner and staff were all that friendly. The cupcakes were on the dry side but the icing was good. I think if the owner and staff were a bit friendlier and served the cupcakes un-refrigerated, the rating might improve.

An okay treat if you're in the area but don't make a special trip just for this place.

Walking through the door, the first thing you notice is the petite bakery case that displays the cupcakes. Occupying the left wall is a basic card table loaded with a cup full of straws, a stack of napkins, and sundry paraphernalia. Next to the table is a dorm size refrigerator with bottled drinks. The right side of the store is dedicated to dining in. It is cramped, and holds about four tables.

While she was polite, being friendly did not appear to come naturally to the owner. She easily slipped into a conversation that centered on denigrating her competition. She appears to love the sound of her own voice.

After paying, I felt unwelcome to sit down and enjoy a cupcake before leaving. Admittedly, I was casually dressed the day I visited, but it was disturbing to see the clear distinction between way she related to me, and the two professionally dressed people who entered the store as I was paying.

When I asked to take a few pictures, she answered with a firm, “No. I don’t allow pictures.” I thought it odd, and couldn’t decide if she is embarrassed by the lack of uniqueness and surprise in the décor (pale yellow walls, white trim, blah, blah, blah…), or if she is worried that someone will try to steal from her the same design idea she lifted from every other cupcake boutique in the country. Regarding this particular design style; the jig is up, and was up many years ago. It would be nice to see her implement the use of environmentally friendly packaging that has become trendy, rather than the non-recyclable plastic she uses.

She makes an outstanding icing. Like O.M.G. good!!! I could eat an entire bowl of the cream cheese icing. But, the cupcakes are only so-so. She should consider partnering a different business for the cupcakes. A dense and moist cupcake topped with her icing would be deadly.

Bottom line: If you happen to be in the area, and suffer a cupcake attack, Cupcake Delights will do the trick. BUT, it’s not worth a special trip.

(Also in reference to the review below)
I think the cupcakes at Cupcake Delights are FABULOUS. The owner always has a smile for me and *always* speaks when I come in. I love the cupcakes and I try to get there as often as possible to gobble up the cupcakes! My daughter also loves them! My husband is always jealous that we don't bring some home for him - but they are so irresistible that we eat them up on the way home! Keep up the great baking! YUM!!!!!!!!!

(In reference to the review below) I think the cupcakes at Cupcake Delights are the BEST in Central Florida! I’ve tried cupcakes from the other cupcake shops in the area and other cities too…Cupcake Delights blows them away. The cupcakes are always delicious and I enjoy them cold and if you don’t…they warm up in no time. The owner is always happy to see me come in…I guess because I’m happy to be there. None of the other cupcake shops were even in the top 5 for best bakery. I guess that says something for Cupcake Delights. Keep up the GREAT cupcakes!!!!!

I agree with a post down below. I was in Florida visiting family and we drove over 40 min so I could check this place out and when we got there I thought the owner was not very friendly either. No smile or welcome. As for the cupcakes the really shouldnt be in the fridge. It makes them hard, cold and dry. It was ok. If you go to any other cupcake shop most of them are just on the counter not in the fridge. I guess most posters here have never had any other cupcake to compare to so of course they are going to love this place.

I was not impressed with this little place. Help was not friendly.......the owner was not friendly and seem to look down her nose at me. I was so excited to go to this little place but was so disappointed.......drove to MT Dora just to go here. Cupcake was somewhat dry, took some home to some dinner guests and they said my cupcakes were better. So.........Cupcake Delight........take a trip to NYC and see how its supposed to be done.
